I AM BEYOND THANKFUL THAT I HAD MY CAMERA IN MY HAND THAT DAY
As I packed my camera in my hospital bag, I expected to capture my baby’s tiny fingers curled around my hand and the first time he was dressed in a cosy cotton outfit, but my plans changed slightly, and I was determined to turn a scary moment into a thing of beauty.
Although this was my second birth, I learned that an emergency C-section was necessary to bring my son safely into the world. It was something I had never experienced before, and I’m so relieved that my camera could bring me comfort on that day. Whilst in theatre, I asked my husband to hand me the camera, and I photographed the very moment Noah came out.
As I clicked away I witnessed his first breath, fresh face and every unedited moment before the lens of my camera. The rawness and beauty of this moment was truly astounding.
Dealing with birth trauma would have been an extremely different journey if I hadn’t had my camera to piece together the puzzle of my birth story. Now, I am able to look back on the images and feel a sense of pride in what could have been a scarring event in my life. My husband is also beyond grateful that I was persistent in taking my camera to the operating theatre; the images of Noah being born will be cherished by us forever.

Why Am I Passionate About Birth Photography?
Every birth story is unique and beautiful - I am truly fascinated by birth stories, and how every woman goes through a completely unique experience. Every birth is remarkable, whether it’s a home birth in the water or a C-section; I am always in awe of the beauty and power of a woman during this special moment of her life.
Birth photographs helped me heal from my trauma - birth details can often become blurry and unclear, especially when there is trauma involved. Having the photographs of Noah’s birth has allowed me to rewrite my story in a positive light and feel in control of a situation that felt extremely scary at the time.
I have lifelong memories of my second birth - Sadly, I have very few images of the birth of my first daughter, Eve. If I could turn back the clock I would have photographed her entrance into the world too. I would strongly encourage mother’s giving birth for the second, third or even fourth time to try birth photography, so that they have those memories to hang onto. As you know, they grow up so quickly, the birth pictures allow you to live in that precious moment again for a short time!

* A pre-birth consultation to meet and talk about your birth plan
* I will be on call from 38 weeks of your pregnancy, until the birth of your baby with my phone on and my camera ready around the clock day or night
* Photographic documentation during active labour, birth and the first hour with your baby
* Photos individually edited in my style and delivered to you via a private online gallery

If you’re planning a birth in a hospital, please do check with your healthcare professionals how many birthing partners you are allowed. Many hospitals can be restricted to one person in the room, but there is flexibility with many.
Should you opt for me to be in the room during your birth, I maintain a respectful, careful and unobtrusive presence at all times. I am also a silent shooter; my cameras have a special setting which means it doesn’t make any noise whilst I capture your images.
Should you need support regarding birth related trauma, there is always help available. You should never feel shame in processing these monumental moments in your life, and you are not alone.
